Roommates, the blessings for Cyntoia Brown keep coming! After news that she will be released from prison after serving a 15 -year sentence, she will also be releasing a book called ‘Free Cyntoia.’
According to the Seattle Times, publishing company, Atria Books, will be publishing Cyntoia’s book. The book will chronicle her life and take readers on what they describe as a “roller coaster ride.” Cyntoia wrote the book during her 15-year sentence and reportedly will explain in great detail what her experiences before and after being incarcerated.
For those who aren’t familiar, Cyntoia’s case went viral and inspired a public campaign for her freedom. When Cyntoia was just 16, she committed murder as an act of self -defense as she was forced into prostitution. Cyntoia was tried as an adult and sentenced to two concurrent life sentence.
As it stands, Cynotia will be released this week and will begin her new life as a free woman. Director Dan Birman first brought attention to Cyntoia’s case with a documentary titled “Me Facing Life: Cyntoia’s Story.” The film took aim at social justice issues like prison reform, juvenile justice reform and how the system at large has failed many kids similar to Cyntoia.
We continue to show support for Cynotia and hope her release is the beginning of the new life she has earned. Along with publishing her new book, it’s being reported that Cynotia will also work with at-risk youth.
Roommates, now that Cynotia will be an author will you be purchaisng “Free Cynotia?” Let us know!
